La Cappella della Porziuncola ad Assisi
Breve storia del/Short hystory of “Pardon D’Assisi” (indulgenza plenaria/plenary indulgence “della Porziuncola o Grande Perdono”)
Proprio alla Porziuncola il Santo d’Assisi ebbe la divina ispirazione di chiedere al papa l’indulgenza che fu poi detta, appunto, “della Porziuncola o Grande Perdono”, la cui festa si celebra il 2 agosto.S. Francesco, in una imprecisata notte del luglio 1216, mentre se ne stava in ginocchio innanzi al piccolo altare della Porziuncola, immerso in preghiera, vide all’improvviso uno sfolgorante chiarore rischiarare le pareti dell’umile chiesa. Seduti in trono, circondati da uno stuolo di angeli, apparvero, in una luce sfavillante, Gesù e Maria. Il Redentore chiese al suo Servo quale grazia desiderasse per il bene degli uomini. S. Francesco umilmente rispose: “Poiché è un misero peccatore che Ti parla, o Dio misericordioso, egli Ti domanda pietà per i suoi fratelli peccatori; e tutti coloro i quali, pentiti, varcheranno le soglie di questo luogo, abbiano da te o Signore, che vedi i loro tormenti, il perdono delle colpe commesse”.
“Quello che tu chiedi, o frate Francesco, è grande – gli disse il Signore -, ma di maggiori cose sei degno e di maggiori ne avrai. Accolgo quindi la tua preghiera, ma a patto che tu domandi al mio vicario in terra, da parte mia, questa indulgenza”.
It was precisely at the Porziuncola that the Saint of Assisi had the divine inspiration to ask the pope for the indulgence which was then called “of the Porziuncola or Great Forgiveness”, whose feast is celebrated on 2 August. Francis, on an unspecified night in July 1216, while he was kneeling before the small altar of the Porziuncola, immersed in prayer, suddenly saw a dazzling light illuminate the walls of the humble church. Seated on their thrones, surrounded by a crowd of angels, Jesus and Mary appeared in a sparkling light. The Redeemer asked his Servant what grace he desired for the good of men. St. Francis humbly replied: “Because it is a miserable sinner who speaks to You, O merciful God, he asks You for mercy for his sinful brothers; and all those who, repentant, cross the thresholds of this place, have from you, O Lord, who see their torments, forgiveness for their sins ”. “What you ask, O Brother Francis, is great – the Lord told him -, but you are worthy of greater things and you will have greater. I therefore accept your prayer, but on condition that you ask my vicar on earth, for my part, for this indulgence ”.
Per ottenere l’indulgenza plenaria oggi occorre/To get the plenary indulgence you must:
1) recitare l’atto di dolore/recite the act of pain
Atto di dolore.
Mio Dio, mi pento e mi dolgo con tutto il cuore dei miei peccati, perché peccando ho meritato i tuoi castighi, e molto più perché ho offeso te, infinitamente buono e degno di essere amato sopra ogni cosa. Propongo con il tuo santo aiuto di non offenderti mai più e di fuggire le occasioni prossime di peccato.
Act of pain.
My God, I repent and grieve with all my heart for my sins, because by sinning I have deserved your punishments, and much more because I have offended you, infinitely good and worthy of being loved above all things. I propose with your holy help never to be offended again and to flee the next occasions of sin.
