Quidam autem ex eis dixérunt: In Beélzebub, príncipe dæmoniórum, éiicit dæmónia. Et álii tentántes, signum de cœlo quærébant ab eo. Ipse autem ut vidit cogitatiónes eórum, dixit eis: Omne regnum in seípsum divísum desolábitur, et domus supra domum cadet. At that time, Jesus was casting out a devil, and the same was dumb; and when He had cast out the devil, the dumb man spoke. And the crowds marveled. But some of them said, By Beelzebub, the prince of devils, He casts out devils. And others, to test Him, demanded from Him a sign from heaven. But He, seeing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and house will fall upon house. If, then, Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say that I cast out devils by Beelzebub. Now, if I cast out devils by Beelzebub, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. When the strong man, fully armed, guards his courtyard, his property is undisturbed. But if a stronger than he attacks and overcomes him, he will take away all his weapons that he relied upon, and will divide his spoils. He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters. When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he roams through waterless places in search of rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house which I left.’ And when he has come to it, he finds the place swept. Then he goes and takes seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse that the first. Now it came to pass as He was saying these things, that a certain woman from the crowd lifted up her voice and said to Him, Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts that nursed You. But He said, Rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God and keep it.

DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**,1)
Ephes 5:1-9
Fratelli: Siate imitatori di Dio, come figli diletti: e camminate nell’amore, così come il Cristo ha amato noi, e si è sacrificato egli stesso per noi, quale offerta e vittima in odore di soavità. Non si possa dire che tra voi si pràtica la fornicazione o qualsiasi impurità o avarizia, siate irreprensíbili come si addice ai santi: non risuònino tra voi oscenità, né sciocchi discorsi, né scurrilità o cose indecenti: ma piuttosto i rendimenti di grazia. Poiché, sappiàtelo bene, nessun fornicatore, o impudico, o avaro, che vuol dire idolatra, sarà erede del regno di Cristo e di Dio. Nessuno vi seduca con vane parole: poiché per tali cose viene l’ira di Dio sopra i figli ribelli. Non vogliate dunque avere società con essi. Infatti una volta eravate ténebre, ma ora siete luce nel Signore. Camminate da figli della luce: poiché il frutto della luce consiste in ogni specie di bontà, di giustizia e di verità.

In quel tempo: Gesù stava liberando un indemoniato che era muto. E non appena cacciò il demonio, il muto parlò e le turbe ne rimàsero meravigliate. Ma alcuni díssero: Egli caccia i démoni in virtù di Belzebù, il príncipe dei démoni. Altri poi, per tentarlo, gli chiedévano un segno dal cielo. Ma egli, avendo scorto i loro pensieri, disse loro: Qualunque regno diviso in partiti contràrii va in perdizione, e una casa rovina sull’altra. Se anche sátana è in discordia con sé stesso, come sussisterà il suo regno? Giacché dite che io scaccio i démoni in virtú di Belzebù.
Il Vangelo di oggi ci conferma l’esistenza del demonio e ci spiega come agisce. Noi siamo il suo obbiettivo. Per questo non possiamo essere di Dio e non esserlo allo stesso tempo. Il demonio non e’ mai inattivo!
Percio’ dobbiamo sempre essere, o almeno cercare di essere, dalla parte di Dio! Nel momento di incertezza comincia l’attacco del demonio. Quando Gesu’ e’ presente i demoni si allontanano! E’ Gesu’ infatti che li scaccia liberando le persone (nel Vangelo si parla di un muto posseduto dal demonio).
Ma Gesu’ viene assurdamente accusato dai giudei di essere dalla parte di Berzebul.
Puo’ succedere che un cristiano fedele abbia dei dubbi. Ma, attenzione! Gesu’ ci dice che la seconda caduta sara’ peggiore della prima! Quindi pregate per non cadere in tentazione.
La lettura (lettera agli efesini) si parla invece del peccato della lussuria (sesto comandamento). Ma e’ proprio a causa di questo peccato che molti si dannano! Corpo e anima sono infatti strettamente collegati e solo la morte li separa. San Paolo aggiunge tra i peccati gravi l’avarizia. Tutti peccati che appesantiscono lo spirito.
Alla conclusione del Vangelo Gesu’ ci dice: beati piuttosto quelli che ascoltano e mettono in pratica la parola di Dio (non basta invocare “Signore, Signore! ma occorre anche agire!).
Sia lodato Gesu’ Cristo! Sempre sia lodato!

Ephes 5:1-9 Brethren: Be imitators of God, as beloved children: and walk in love, just as Christ loved us, and sacrificed himself for us, as an offering and victim in the odor of sweetness. It cannot be said that fornication or any impurity or avarice is practiced among you, be irreproachable as befits the saints: let no obscenities resound among you, nor foolish speeches, nor scurrility or indecent things: but rather the returns of grace. For, know this well, no fornicator, or immodest, or covetous, which means idolater, will inherit the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with vain words: for for such things comes the wrath of God upon wayward children. . So do not want to have partnership with them. For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light: for the fruit of the light consists in all kinds of goodness, justice and truth.

Today’s Gospel confirms the existence of the devil and explains how he works. We are the target of the devil. We cannot be of God and not be at the same time. The devil is never idle! So we must be, or try to be, on God’s side! In the moment of uncertainty the attack of the devil begins. When Jesus is present, the demons leave! In fact, it is Jesus who drives them away by freeing people (the Gospel speaks of a mute possessed by the devil). But Jesus is absurdly accused by the Jews present of being on the side of Berzebul.
It can happen that a faithful Christian has doubts. But, beware! Jesus tells us that the second fall will be worse than the first! So pray not to fall into temptation. The reading (letter to the Ephesians) speaks instead of the sin of lust (sixth commandment). But it is precisely because of this sin that many are damned! Body and soul are in fact closely connected and only death separates them. Saint Paul adds avarice among the grave sins. All sins that weigh down the spirit. At the conclusion of the Gospel Jesus tells us: blessed are those who listen to and put into practice the word of God (it is not enough to invoke “Lord, Lord!) but also in acting!).
Praised be Jesus Christ! Always be praised!
