Matt 17:1-9
Gospel
Matt 17:1-9
At that time, Jesus took Peter, James and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves, and was transfigured before them. And His face shone as the sun, and His garments became white as snow. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking together with Him. Then Peter addressed Jesus, saying, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You will, let us set up three tents here, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elias. As he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear Him. And on hearing it the disciples fell on their faces and were exceedingly afraid. And Jesus came near and touched them, and said to them, Arise, and do not be afraid. But lifting up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus cautioned them, saying, Tell the vision to no one, till the Son of Man has risen from the dead.
DALL’OMELIA DI (FROM THE HOMILY BY) DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA – ORARI S.MESSA DI SABATO 6 AGOSTO 2022 ORE 8.00
DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (*,1)
2 Petri 1:16-19

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**,1) (in prep.)
t
2 Petri 1: 16-19 Dear friends, we have made known the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, not by following ingenious fables, but after having seen his greatness with our own eyes. Indeed, he received honor and glory from God the Father, when a voice descended to him from the majestic glory: “This is my beloved son, in whom I have placed my pleasure: listen to him”.
Matth 17: 1-9 At that time, Jesus took with him Peter, James and his brother John, and led them aside, on a high mountain; and, before them, he was transfigured. His face became as bright as the sun, his clothes became as white as snow.
Today we celebrate the feast of the transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ. The festival was established on August 6 to celebrate the victory in the battle of Belgrade against the Turks (1493).
The apostles were able to see Jesus transfigured in order to strengthen their faith and keep it at the moment of Jesus’ death on the cross.
The cross will come for us too!
Who will resist? Not those who take advantage of earthly security (of course you need to prepare, but you shouldn’t rely on material resources!).
Only those who have kept the flame of faith, thanks to the transfiguration of Jesus! We have seen Jesus transfigured in our conscience, where our mind is closest to God!
Let us not be deluded by worldly successes and consensus.
It is our conscience that must prevail, as John Henry Newman well said, sanctified – not surprisingly – by Benedict XVI in 2010.
Praised be Christ! Always be praised!
