And immediately his mouth (Zachary) was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak, blessing God.

Evangelium
Luc 1:57-68
Gospel
Luke 1:57-68
Elizabeth’s time was fulfilled that she should be delivered, and she brought forth a son. And her neighbors and kinsfolk heard that the Lord had magnified His mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. And it came to pass on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him by his father’s name, Zachary. And his mother answered and said, Not so, but he shall be called John. And they said to her, There is none of your kindred that is called by this name. And they kept inquiring by signs of his father what he would have him called. And asking for a writing-tablet he wrote the words, John is his name. And they all marveled. And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak, blessing God. And fear came on all their neighbors; and all these things were spoken abroad in all the hill country of Judea. And all who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him. And Zachary his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has visited and wrought redemption for His people.
DALL’OMELIA DI (FROM THE HOMILY BY) DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA – ORARI S.MESSA DI SABATO 25 GIUGNO 2022, ORE 8.00:
DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (*,1)
Isa 49:1-3; 49:5-7
E Zaccaria riprende a parlare.

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**,1)
Isa 49: 1-3; 49: 5-7 Listen, you islands, and be careful, you distant peoples: the Lord called me from my mother’s womb, remembered my name from her womb. And he made my mouth like a sharp sword: he protected me under the shadow of his hands, shaped me like a sharp arrow and placed me in his quiver.
Luke 1: 57-68 The time came when Elizabeth was to give birth, and she bore a son. Her neighbors and relatives, having heard that the Lord had shown his mercy to her, congratulated her. After eight days, they came to circumcise the child, and they wanted to call him Zechariah, like his father. But his mother intervened, saying: No, he will be named John instead.
Today we celebrate the feast of St. John the Baptist. It is a great joy for Elizabeth and Zacharias. They were a sterile family but the Lord gave grace! There is a deep gratitude to God, which is why they call him John. And Zaccaria resumes speaking.
Grace is not just for him and his family but for all of Israel. Because John will announce the advent of Jesus ” And he recognizes this by saying “Behold the Lambs of God”.
The church fathers noted that with today’s holiday the light of day begins to wane, while with Christmas the light gets longer. This means that John must give rise to the light of Jesus!
The triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary means the beginning of the Kingdom of God!
The Lord will announce himself in a particular way for his people!
Praised be Jesus Christ. Always be praised!
