Evangelium
Luc 14:26-35
Gospel
Luke 14:26-35
At that time Jesus said to the multitudes, If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, and wife and children, and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. And he who does not carry his cross and follow Me, cannot be My disciple. For which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not sit down first and calculate the outlays that are necessary, whether he has the means to complete it? Lest, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all who behold begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish!’ Or what king setting out to engage in battle with another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to meet him who with twenty thousand is coming against him? Or else, while the other is yet at a distance, he sends a delegation and asks the terms of peace. So, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all that he possesses, cannot be My disciple. Salt is good; but if even the salt loses its strength, what shall it be seasoned with? It is fit neither for the land nor for the manure heap, but must be thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
DALL’OMELIA DI (FROM THE HOMILY BY) DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA – ORARI S.MESSA DI MARTEDI 14 GIUGNO ORE 8.00

DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (*,1)
2 Tim 4:1-8
Oggi ricordiamo San Basilio Magno (in greco antico: Βασίλειος ὁ Μέγας, Basíleios ho Mégas; in latino: Basilius Magnus («il Grande»); Cesarea in Cappadocia, 329 – Cesarea in Cappadocia, 1º gennaio 379).

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**,1)
2 Tim 4: 1-8 Dearest: I adjure you before God and Jesus Christ, who has to come to judge the living and the dead, for his coming and for his kingdom: preach the Word, insist at the right time and out of time. Reprimand, exhort, scold with patient teaching; because the time will come when people will not be able to bear sound doctrine, but to indulge their passion and out of itch for novelty, a crowd of teachers will be created, and in order not to listen to the truth they will go after fables.
Luke 14: 26-35 At that time Jesus said to the crowds: «If anyone comes to me without disliking his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his life, he cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Today we remember Saint Basil the Great (in ancient Greek: Βασίλειος ὁ Μέγας, Basíleios ho Mégas; in Latin: Basilius Magnus (“the Great”); Caesarea in Cappadocia, 329 – Caesarea in Cappadocia, 1 January 379). He fought the good fight of the faith, as Saint Paul says.
He is one of the greatest Fathers of the Eastern Church. He was a close friend of Gregorio Nazianzeno. He died, like St. George, a martyr in the persecution of Diocletian.
He wrote the rule that still inspires the life of the Basilian monks in the Eastern church (the rule of San Basilio). He fights Arianism (heresy against the divinity of Christ and the Holy Spirit).
His intervention was decisive at the Council of Constantinople against the heresy of Arius.
We must imitate him with the witness of our life to the following of Christ!
Praised be Jesus Christ. Always be praised!
