Evangelium
Ioannes 20:19-31
Sicut misit me Pater, et ego mitto vos.
Gospel
John 20. 19-31
At that time, when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together for fear of the Jews, Jesus came, and stood in the midst and said to them: Peace be to you. And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent Me, I also send you. When He had said this, He breathed on them, and He said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained. Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, who is called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him: We have seen the Lord. But he said to them: Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe. And after eight days, again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said: Peace be to you. Then He saith to Thomas: Put in thy finger hither, and see My hands, and bring hither thy hand, and put into My side; and be not faithless, but believing. Thomas answered and said to Him: my Lord and my God. Jesus saith to him: Because thou hast seen Me, Thomas, thou hast believed; blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed. Many other signs also did Jesus in the sight of His disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that, believing, you may have life in His Name.
DALL’OMELIA DI (FROM THE HOMILY BY) DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA – ORARI S.MESSA DI DOMENICA IN ALBIS, OTTAVA DI PASQUA E FESTA DELLA DIVINA MISERICORDIA 24 APRILE 2022, ORE 10.30

DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (*)
1 John 5:4-10.

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**)
1 John 5: 4-10. Beloved: whoever is born of God triumphs over the world; and what has triumphed over the world is our faith. Who is it that conquers the world, if not who believes that Jesus is the son of God? It is He who came by means of water and blood, Jesus Christ: not in the water alone, but in the water and in the blood.
Joannes 20: 19-31. At that time, on the evening of that day, the first of the week, being, for fear of the Jews, he closed the doors of the place where the disciples were, Jesus came, stood among them and said: Peace be with you! And having said this he showed them his hands and side. And the disciples rejoiced to see the Lord.
It is Sunday in albis, the white robes of baptism on Easter day that they wore for eight days.
We remember the miracle that occurred in our baptism when the Lord made us become his children and heirs of eternal life.
But it is also Mercy Sunday, to remember the goodness of the Lord who saved us through his death on the cross. So thank you for that too! We look at the wounds of Jesus Christ like Thomas and believe. Faith is the most important thing.
Baptism is an event of our childhood, but we can renew it every day. In the epistle St. John affirms that only what comes from God can conquer the world.
We must be enemies of the perverse mentality of the world which is also within us and which pushes us to behave according to the (wrong) rules of the world.
Not those of God. Blessed are those who, despite not having seen, will believe! It is us!
We have had the gift of faith! The apostles also had the same gift, but not immediately for everyone as in the case of Thomas!
Today we marvel at the miracle of our faith, a miracle due to the Holy Spirit! It is Jesus who gave us the Holy Spirit! And it is faith that sustains us!
Praised be Jesus Christ. Always be praised!
