EVANGELIUM E OMELIA\HOMILY:
Luc 7:11-16
Gospel
Luke 7:11-16.
At that time, Jesus went to a town called Naim; and His disciples and a large crowd went with Him. And as He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was with her, and said to her, Do not weep. And He went up and touched the stretcher; and the bearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And he who was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. But fear seized upon all, and they began to glorify God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited His people.
DALL’OMELIA (FROM THE HOMILY) – SABATO 4 MAGGIO 2024 ORE 18.00

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**,1)
From the letter of Saint Paul the apostle to Timothy.
Dearest: Honor the widows, who are truly such. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, she must learn first of all to govern her home, to repay her parents, because this pleases God. The widow, who is truly alone and abandoned, should hope in God and persevere night and day. day in supplications and prayers.
From the Gospel according to St. Luke.
At that time, Jesus was going towards a city called Naim, and with him his disciples and a large crowd. As he approached the city gate, behold, a dead man was being carried out for burial: an only son, and his mother was a widow. And there were many people from the city with her. When he saw her, the Lord was moved to pity and said to her: “Don’t cry.” Then he approached and touched the coffin; the bearers stopped; and he said, “Boy, I tell you, get up.” And the dead man sat up and began to speak.
Today we celebrate Saint Monica, mother of Saint Augustine (in the 4th century). The persecutions were over and Christianity was widespread. However, faith was also weak among many. Augustine was in fact a heretic. Monica dies shortly after her son’s baptism, while returning to Tunisia. Augustine was spiritually dead. But God resurrected him so much so that he became one of the greatest doctors of the Church.
We must therefore have faith that our family members can return to the faith. We must imitate Monica in her continuous prayers for her son’s conversion.
Praised be Jesus Christ! Always be praised!
