Nesciebátis, quia in his, quæ Patris mei sunt, opórtet me esse?
Gospel
Luke 2:42-52
When Jesus was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. And after they had fulfilled the days, when they were returning, the Boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem, and His parents did not know it. But thinking that He was in the caravan, they had come a day’s journey before it occurred to them to look for Him among their relatives and acquaintances. And not finding Him, they returned to Jerusalem in search of Him. And it came to pass after three days, that they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who were listening to Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers. And when they saw Him, they were astonished. And His Mother said to Him, Son, why have You done so to us? Behold, in sorrow Your father and I have been seeking You. And He said to them, How is it that you sought Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business? And they did not understand the word that He spoke to them. And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them; and His Mother kept all these things carefully in her heart. And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and grace before God and men.
DALL’OMELIA DI (FROM THE HOMILY BY) DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA – VENERDI 12/01/2024 ORE 17.30:
Stiamo vivendo il tempo successivo all’Epifania.

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**,1)
Reading of the Letter of St. Paul Ap. to the Romans. I adjure you brothers, by the mercy of God, to offer your bodies as a living host, holy, pleasing to God. May this be your reasonable worship. From the Gospel according to Luke. When Jesus reached the age of twelve, Mary and Joseph, after having made the customary pilgrimage to the temple in Jerusalem to perform the Bar mitzvah rite (the presentation of a passage from the Bible from memory). The parents then left for Galilee. But the boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem without his parents realizing it. Jesus remained in the Temple to explain to the rabbis the interpretation of the Bible readings. We are living in the time after the Epiphany. The Christmas holiday season is coming to an end. Jesus is twelve years old and remains alone in the Temple of Jerusalem. Jesus is attracted by the holy place. To the point that he doesn’t even tell his parents. But Jesus reached legal maturity in Israel. Furthermore, in Jesus there is the wisdom of God: he is the great teacher, the redeemer, the Word who speaks among us and is truly present here in the bread and wine! We must learn to become disciples of Christ. St. Paul teaches us that we must offer our lives (our bodies) and all our strength as a sacrifice for Christ, conforming them to His will. This is the meaning of our life (the offering of ourselves for which the Tridentine altar is very appropriate!). Another piece of advice: do not evaluate yourselves more than you should, that is, members of the mystical body in which each one has a role, without however being superior to the others! This is a work of God that we can achieve by learning to discern correctly, renouncing sin.
Praised be Jesus Christ! Always be praised!
