EVANGELIUM E OMELIA\HOMILY:
Evangelium
Matt 23:1-12

Gospel
Matt 23:1-12
At that time, Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, saying, The Scribes and the Pharisees have sat on the chair of Moses. All things, therefore, that they command you, observe and do. But do not act according to their works; for they talk but do nothing. And they bind together heavy and oppressive burdens, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but not with one finger of their own do they choose to move them. In fact, all their works they do in order to be seen by men; for they widen their phylacteries, and enlarge their tassels, and love the first places at suppers and the front seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the market place, and to be called by men ‘Rabbi.’ But do not you be called ‘Rabbi’; for one is your Master, and all you are brothers. And call no one on earth your father; for one is your Father, Who is in heaven. Neither be called masters; for one only is your Master, the Christ. He who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.
DALL’OMELIA DI (FROM THE HOMILY BY) DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA – ORARI S.MESSA DI OGGI MARTEDI 15 MARZ0 2022, ORE 8.00
DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (*)
3 Reg 17:8-16

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**)
3 Reg 17: 8-16 In those days the word of the Lord was addressed to Elijah Thesbite with these words: “Get up and go to Sarepta of the Sidonians, where you will stay. There! I ordered a widow there to feed you. ‘ She went and did as Elijah told her, and ate him, her, and her son. And from that day the flour jar never remained empty, the jar of oil never dropped, according to the word that the Lord had spoken through Elijah.
Matt 23: 1-12 Nor let them call you guides; because your only guide is Christ. Whoever is greater among you will be your minister. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, whoever humbles himself will be exalted ».
What beautiful teachings we have received with these readings! Chosen by the Church for centuries as most suitable for the Lenten journey.
The first reading is about the famine affecting Sirepte’s widow. The prophet Elijah asks her for bread. She feeds him by faith in providence and heroic charity. And she is rewarded for it!
Every act of generosity is rewarded by the Lord!
In the Gospel, Jesus preaches against the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and scribes.
Against false teachers, who like to be called “guides” and “fathers”.
But this is not the case: it is the Lord who attributes his vocation to each one! One cannot attribute to oneself the offices and responsibilities!
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, whoever humbles himself will be exalted!
Praised be Jesus Christ! Always be praised!
