Evangelium
Matt 25:1-13
In illo témpore: Dixit Iesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Simile erit regnum cœlórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia néscitis diem neque horam.
Gospel
Matt 25:1-13
In that time Jesus said to the people: Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride. And five of them were foolish, and five wise. But the five foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps. And the bridegroom tarrying, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh, go ye forth to meet him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out. The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. Now whilst they went to buy, the bridegroom came: and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut. But at last came also the other virgins, saying: Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not. Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.

DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (*)
2 Cor 10:17-18; 11, 1-2.

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**)
2 Cor 10: 17-18; 11, 1-2.
Brothers, “whoever boasts, let him boast in the Lord”: for not the one who recommends himself is approved, but the one whom the Lord recommends.
Matth 25: 1-13
At that time, Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride. But five of them were foolish and five were prudent.
Today we remember Saint Scholastica of Norcia (Norcia, 2 March 480 – Piumarola, 10 February 547). twin sister of St. Benedict of Norcia, she was an Italian nun, patroness of the order of Benedictine nuns.
She is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church and the Anglican Church.
At the age of twelve she was sent to Rome with her brother to complete classical studies, but both were deeply disturbed by the dissolute life they led there. For this reason Benedict and Scholastica then decided to devote themselves to the religious life. When Benedict founded the abbey of Montecassino, Scholastica followed him, founding the nearby monastery of Piumarola and giving rise to the female branch of the Benedictine Order.
St. Scholastica is mentioned by St. Gregory the Great in his chronicles.
He remembers in particular the last conversation between St. Benedict and his sister, that the first refusal (the rule of St. Benedict). While St. Benedict was reciting his prayers, he saw his sister’s soul fly into the sky. In the basilica of Montecassino the two holy brothers are buried side by side.
In the Gospel there is the episode of the ten virgins.
But five of them fall asleep. This is what happens very often even among Christians.
It is necessary to keep the faith!
The Lord must return!
To keep the faith (oil) it is necessary to pray in order to keep the grace of the Lord!
So let us not reject the ways of Providence and prophecies!
Praised be Jesus Christ! Always be praised!
