Ioannes 17:1-11
In illo témpore: Sublevátis Iesus óculis in cœlum, dixit: Pater, venit hora, clarífica Fílium tuum, ut Fílius tuus claríficet te: sicut dedísti ei potestátem omnis carnis, ut omne, quod dedísti ei, det eis vitam ætérnam. Hæc est autem vita ætérna: ut cognóscant te, solum Deum verum, et quem misísti Iesum Christum. Ego te clarificávi super terram: opus consummávi, quod dedísti mihi, ut fáciam: et nunc clarífica me tu, Pater, apud temetípsum, claritáte, quam hábui, priúsquam mundus esset, apud te. Manifestávi nomen tuum homínibus, quos dedísti mihi de mundo. Tui erant, et mihi eos dedísti; et sermónem tuum servavérunt. Nunc cognovérunt, quia ómnia, quæ dedísti mihi, abs te sunt: quia verba, quæ dedísti mihi, dedi eis: et ipsi accepérunt, et cognovérunt vere, quia a te exivi, et credidérunt, quia tu me misísti. John 17:1-11.
At that time, raising His eyes to heaven, Jesus said, Father, the hour has come! Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You, even as You have given Him power over all flesh, in order that to all You have given Him He may give everlasting life. Now this is everlasting life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Him Whom You have sent, Jesus Christ. I have glorified You on earth; I have accomplished the work that You have given Me to do. And now You, Father, glorify Me with Yourself, with the glory that I had with You before the world existed. I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You have given them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they have learnt that whatever You have given Me is from You; because the words that You have given Me I have given to them. And they have received them, and have known of a truth that I came forth from You, and they have believed that You did send Me. I pray for them; not for the world do I pray, but for those whom You have given Me, because they are Yours; and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I am glorified in them. Eph 4:7-13
Fratelli, a ciascuno di noi è stata data la grazia secondo la misura del dono fattoci dal Cristo. Ecco perché è detto: “Asceso in alto, fece schiava la schiavitù: distribuì doni agli uomini”. Ma che significa l’essere salito, se non per esser prima disceso anche nelle infime regioni della terra? Colui che discese, è quello stesso che pure ascese sopra tutti i cieli per riempire ogni cosa. Ed egli pertanto altri costituì apostoli, altri profeti, altri evangelisti, altri pastori e dottori, per rendere atti i santi all’opera di ministero, per l’edificazione del Corpo del Cristo; finché arriveremo tutti all’unità della fede, all’intera conoscenza del Figlio di Dio, allo stato di uomo perfetto, alla misura della piena maturità del Cristo.
Joannes 17:1-11
In quel tempo; levando gli occhi al Cielo, Gesù disse: «Padre, è giunta l’ora, glorifica il tuo Figlio, onde anche il tuo Figlio glorifichi te, secondo il potere che Gli hai dato sopra ogni uomo, con il donare la vita eterna a coloro che gli hai affidati. E la vita eterna consiste in questo: che conoscano te, solo vero Dio, e colui che hai mandato, Gesù Cristo. Io ti ho glorificato sulla terra, compiendo l’opera che mi hai data da fare; ed ora, Padre, glorifica me presso di te con quella gloria che ebbi presso di te prima che il mondo fosse. Ho manifestato il tuo nome agli uomini che mi affidasti, traendoli dal mondo; erano tuoi e li desti a me, ed essi hanno osservata la tua parola. Ora sanno che tutto quello che mi hai dato viene da te, perché le parole che comunicasti a me, le ho loro trasmesse, ed essi le hanno accolte, e veramente hanno riconosciuto che io sono venuto da Dio, ed han creduto che tu mi hai mandato. Per essi io prego; non prego per il mondo, ma per quelli che mi hai affidati, perché son tuoi. Ed ogni cosa mia è tua, ed ogni tua è mia. In essi io sono stato glorificato. Io ormai non sono più nel mondo; ma essi restano nel mondo, mentre io vengo a te».
Oggi e’ la vigilia dell’Ascensione del Signore. La liturgia ci prepara alla festa di domani, ovvero al trionfo sulla morte, sul peccanto e su Satana.
Nella lettura apprendiamo che Gesu’ e’ sceso per tre giorni agli inferi per portare in paradiso i giusti dell’alleanza di Mose’.
Con l’Ascensione Gesu’ ci porta i doni della grazia: alcuni sono maestri, altri sono apostoli, altri sono profeti. Anche noi saremo liberati da Gesu’ morto, risorto e salito al cielo!
Sia lodato Gesu’ Cristo! Sempre sia lodato!

Eph. 4:7-13.
Brethren: To each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s bestowal. Thus it says, Ascending on high, He led away captives; He gave gifts to men. Now this, He ascended, what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He Who descended, He it is Who ascended also above all the heavens, that He might fill all things. And He Himself gave some men as apostles, and some as prophets, others again as evangelists, and others as pastors and teachers, in order to perfect the saints for a work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the deep knowledge of the Son of God, to perfect manhood, to the mature measure of the fullness of Christ.

Today is the eve of the Ascension of the Lord. The liturgy prepares us for tomorrow’s feast, or rather for the triumph over death, sin and Satan.
In the reading we learn that Jesus descended into hell for three days to bring the righteous of Moses’ covenant to paradise.
With the Ascension, Jesus brings us the gifts of grace: some are teachers, others are apostles, others are prophets. We too will be freed by Jesus who died, rose and ascended to heaven!
Praised be Jesus Christ! Always be praised!
