Hunc ergo cum vidísset Petrus, dixit Iesu: Dómine, hic autem quid? Dicit ei Iesus: Sic eum volo manére, donec véniam, quid ad te? tu me séquere. Exiit ergo sermo iste inter fratres, quia discípulus ille non móritur. Et non dixit ei Iesus: Non móritur; sed: Sic eum volo manére, donec véniam: quid ad te? At that time, Jesus said to Peter, Follow Me. Turning around, Peter saw following them the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who, at the supper, had leaned back upon His breast and said, Lord, who is it that will betray You? Peter therefore, seeing him, said to Jesus, Lord, and what of this man? Jesus said to him, If I wish him to remain until I come, what is it to you? You, follow Me. This saying therefore went abroad among the brethren, that that disciple was not to die. But Jesus had not said to him, He is not to die; but rather, If I wish him to remain until I come, what is it to you? This is the disciple who bears witness concerning these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his witness is true.

DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**,1)

Eccli 15:1-6
Chi teme Dio farà bene, e chi abbraccia la legge consegue la sapienza. Essa gli va incontro qual madre, e qual vergine sposa lo accoglie. Lo nutre col pane della vita e dell’intelligenza, lo disseta coll’acqua della salutare sapienza. Ed egli si appoggia a lei e non vacilla; a lei si affida e non rimane deluso. Lo fa grande sopra i suoi compagni. Nelle pubbliche adunanze gli dà la parola, lo riempie dello spirito di sapienza e d’intelligenza, e lo copre col manto della gloria; ammassa su di lui tesori di gioia e di allegrezza, e gli fa ereditare un nome eterno, il Signore Dio nostro.

Joann 21:19-24
In quel tempo Gesù disse a Pietro: «Seguimi». Pietro, voltandosi, si vide vicino il discepolo prediletto da Gesù, quello che nella cena posò sul petto di lui, e disse: «Signore, chi è il tuo traditore?». Or vedutolo, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Signore, e di lui che ne sarà?». Gesù rispose: «Se io voglio che resti finché io non ritorni, che te ne importa?». E questi è il discepolo che attesta tali cose, e le ha scritte: sappiamo che la sua testimonianza è verace.

E’ ben giusto che S. Giovanni Evangelista faccia parte di quei discepoli che si ricordano vicino a Natale.

S. Giovanni e’ simboleggiato, infatti, dall’aquila. Questo perche’ la sua mente e’ arrivata cosi’ in alto vicino a Dio da averne visione (descritta nell AP).

E’ il discepolo amato dal Signore.

Dovremmo anche noi imitarlo nella preghiera! Cosi’ potremo essere testimoni nella verita’ di Cristo!

Sia lodato Gesu’ Cristo! Sempre sia lodato!

Here are 15:1-6 Whoever fears God will do well, and whoever embraces the law attains wisdom. She goes to meet him like a mother, and welcomes him like a virgin bride. He feeds him with the bread of life and intelligence, quenches his thirst with the water of healthy wisdom. And he leans on her and does not waver; he trusts her and is not disappointed. It does great above its mates. In public meetings he gives him the word, fills him with the spirit of wisdom and intelligence, and covers him with the mantle of glory; heaps upon him treasures of joy and gladness, and causes him to inherit an everlasting name, the Lord our God.

John 21:19-24 At that time Jesus said to Peter: “Follow me”. Peter, turning around, saw Jesus’ favorite disciple nearby, whom he placed on his breast at supper, and said: “Lord, who is your traitor?” Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, what will become of him?” Jesus answered, “If I want you to stay until I come back, what do you care?” And this is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote them: we know that his testimony is true.

It is only right that St. John the Evangelist should be one of those disciples who are remembered close to Christmas. St. John is in fact symbolized by the eagle. This is because his mind has come so close to God that he has vision (described in the AP). He is the disciple loved by the Lord. We too should imitate him in prayer! So we can be witnesses in the truth of Christ!
