Ioann 11:47-54
n illo témpore: Collegérunt pontífices et pharisǽi concílium advérsus Iesum, et dicébant: Quid fácimus, quia hic homo multa signa facit? Si dimíttimus eum sic, omnes credent in eum: et vénient Románi, et tollent nostrum locum et gentem. Unus autem ex ipsis, Cáiphas nómine, cum esset póntifex anni illíus, dixit eis: Vos nescítis quidquam, nec cogitátis, quia éxpedit vobis, ut unus moriátur homo pro pópulo, et non tota gens péreat. At that time, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together a council against Jesus, and said, What are we doing? for this man is working many signs. If we let Him alone as He is, all will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. But one of them, Caiphas, being high priest that year, said to them, You know nothing at all; nor do you reflect that it is expedient for us that one man die for the people, instead of the whole nation perishing. This, however, he said not of himself; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was to die for the nation; and not only for the nation, but that He might gather into one the children of God who were scattered abroad. So from that day forth their plan was to put Him to death. Jesus therefore no longer went about openly among the Jews, but withdrew to the district near the desert, to a town called Ephrem; and there He stayed with His disciples.

Dal Libro del profeta Geremia.
In quei giorni Geremia disse: «Signore, tutti quelli che ti abbandonano saranno confusi, quelli che si allontanano da te saranno scritti nella polvere; perché hanno abbandonato la sorgente d’acqua viva, il Signore. Guariscimi, Signore, e sarò guarito; salvami, e sarò salvato; la mia gloria sei Tu. Ecco che i persecutori mi dicono: “Dov’è la parola del Signore? S’adempia!”.
Dal Vangelo secondo S. Giovanni.
In quel tempo si radunarono i principi dei sacerdoti ed i Farisei in consiglio e dicevano: «Che facciamo? Quest’uomo fa molti miracoli. Se lo lasciamo fare, tutti crederanno in lui e verranno i Romani e stermineranno il nostro paese e la nazione». Allora uno di loro, chiamato Càifa, che era in quell’anno pontefice, disse loro: «Voi non capite nulla, e non pensate come vi torni conto che un uomo solo muoia per il popolo, e non perisca tutta la nazione». Gesù adunque non conversava più in pubblico con i Giudei, ma si ritirò in una regione, vicino al deserto, in una città chiamata Efrem, dove soleva stare coi suoi discepoli.
Siamo nel venerdi di Passione di Gesu’. I Giudei tentano piu’ volte di lapidarlo. I Giudei decidono di ucciderlo. Ma Gesu’ si ritira vicino al deserto presso Efrem nell’attesa del Venerdi di Pasqua. Quindi c’e’ un disegno al quale Gesu’ intende sottomettersi. Il giorno della Pasqua ebraica diventera’ il giorno della Pasqua del Signore, cioe’ il giorno della salvezza per tutte le genti!
Sia lodato Gesu’ Cristo! Sempre sia lodato!

From the Book of the prophet Jeremiah.
In those days Jeremiah said: «Lord, all those who abandon you will be put to shame, those who turn away from you will be written in the dust; because they have abandoned the source of living water, the Lord. Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved; my glory is You. Behold the persecutors say to me: “Where is the word of the Lord? It is fulfilled!”.
From the Gospel according to St. John.
At that time the princes of the priests and the Pharisees gathered together in council and said: «What shall we do? This man works many miracles. If we let him do it, everyone will believe in him and the Romans will come and exterminate our country and the nation.” Then one of them, called Caiaphas, who was pontiff in that year, said to them: “You understand nothing, and you do not think how it benefits you if only one man dies for the people, and the whole nation does not perish.” Jesus therefore no longer conversed in public with the Jews, but withdrew to a region, near the desert, to a city called Ephrem, where he used to stay with his disciples. We are on the Friday of the Passion of Jesus. The Jews try several times to stone him. The Jews decide to kill him. But Jesus retreats near the desert near Ephrem while waiting for Easter Friday. So there is a plan to which Jesus intends to submit. The day of the Jewish Passover will become the day of the Lord’s Passover, that is, the day of salvation for all people!
