DALL’OMELIA DI DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**,1)
Dal libro della Sapienza.
Egli fu amato da Dio e dagli uomini: la sua memoria è in benedizione. Dio lo rese simile ai santi nella gloria, lo fece potente e terribile per i suoi nemici, e per le sue parole fece cessare i prodigiosi castighi. Lo rese glorioso al cospetto dei re, gli diede i precetti per il suo popolo, e gli fece vedere la sua gloria. Lo santificò per la sua fedeltà e dolcezza, e lo elesse fra tutti i mortali. Gli fece udire la sua voce, e lo fece entrare nella nube; gli consegnò, a faccia a faccia, i suoi comandamenti ed una legge di vita e di saggezza.
Dal Vangelo secondo S. Matteo.
In quel tempo Pietro disse a Gesù: «Ecco noi abbiamo lasciato ogni cosa e ti abbiamo seguito; che cosa adunque avremo noi?». E Gesù disse loro: «In verità vi dico: Voi che mi avete seguito, nella rigenerazione, quando il Figlio dell’uomo sederà sul trono della sua gloria, sederete anche voi sopra dodici troni a giudicare le dodici tribù di Israele. E chiunque avrà lasciato casa, fratelli o sorelle, o padre o madre, o moglie o figli, o campi per amore del nome mio, riceverà il centuplo e possederà la vita eterna».
Oggi ricordiamo la festa di S. Benedetto da Norcia. E’ lui quel giovane cristiano che, inorridito dalla corruzione della citta’ di Roma, decise di dedicarsi alla vita monastica di eremitaggio. Ma la notizia del suo stile di vita si diffonde e molti cristiani chiedono di poterlo seguire. Nasce quindi il monachesimo occidentale, la nuova societa’ cristiana alla ricerca del Signore. Benedetto fu anche un grande esorcista in quanto dovette combattere le tentazioni demoniache.
Sia lodato Gesu’ Cristo! Sempre sia lodato!

From the book of Wisdom.
He was loved by God and men: his memory is a blessing. God made him similar to the saints in glory, made him powerful and terrible for his enemies, and through his words made the prodigious punishments stop. He made him glorious in the presence of kings, gave him precepts for his people, and showed them his glory. He sanctified him for his faithfulness and gentleness, and chose him among all mortals. He made him hear his voice, and made him enter the cloud; he gave him, face to face, his commandments and a law of life and wisdom.
From the Gospel according to St. Matthew.
At that time Peter said to Jesus: «Behold, we have left everything and followed you; what then will we have?”. And Jesus said to them: «Truly I say to you: You who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man sits on the throne of his glory, you too will sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And whoever leaves house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will possess eternal life.” Today we remember the feast of St. Benedict of Norcia. He is that young Christian who, horrified by the corruption of the city of Rome, decided to dedicate himself to the monastic life of a hermit. But the news of his lifestyle spreads and many Christians ask to be able to follow him. Western monasticism was therefore born, the new Christian society in search of the Lord. Benedict was also a great exorcist as he had to fight demonic temptations.
